About the Qualification
Q: Could graduates sign up for this competition?
A: Yes，but graduates of 2021 only. The competition is open to undergraduate, master and doctoral students (including 2021 graduates and 2021 freshmen) from domestic and foreign higher education institutions undertaking programs in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and other design related disciplines. Individuals and teams of individuals are both acceptable, 4 members on a team maximum.
Q: Could the team include members from different grades, disciplines or schools?
A: Yes, but all the team members should meet the entry qualification.
About Design Submission Documents
Q: Are there any requirements for the submission document?
A: Please refer to Chapter IV Document Requirements of Section II Design Brief in the Competition Document for requirements for contents, format, and submitting method of the submission document as well as other related information.
About Design Conditions
Q: What's the thickness of the covering soil above the tunnel?
A: The thickness of covering soil at the junction of tunnel and north and south basement is about 1 meter, and the rest is 1 meter to 4 meters.
Q: Are there any specific management boundaries for the Future Science Park and should the planned amusement facilities be considered in the design?
A: The Future Science Park is going to be an open park without ticket for entry. The planned facilities in the site may not be taken into consideration for now.
Q: Is the retaining wall for the lightwell of the tunnel going to be reserved?
A: Yes. But it can be improved with landscaping methods without affecting its function.
Q: What is the requirement about dealing with the traffic at the intersection between the Qigang Road and the site?
A: Qigang Road is a municipal road. A roundabout will be set up at the intersection between Qigang Road and the site, where also the lightwell of the tunnel is located. The design should meet the traffic demand of the urban road and also consider coherence of space experience within the site.
Q: What does elevation "8.100" on the footbridge across the Gangkou River specifically refer to?
A: The elevation "8.100" refers to the absolute elevation of the footbridge surface, which is immutable condition. Participants should pay attention to the connection between different elevations, and propose appropriate strategies including adding stairs, ramps or lifts to ensure smooth pedestrian circulation.
Q: Does the demand for vehicle traffic of the residential areas and commercial areas need to be considered?
A: No. The site is an east-west slow traffic of Zhongshan OCT Harbour. The dominant way of passage in the site is pedestrian traffic, while battery car will also be planned.
Q: There is a river and a bridge inside the site. Is there any flood control requirement?
Q: Could there be changes for the fencing walls of the Lohas Residential Area?
A: The fencing walls and entrances of the Lohas Residential Area are not allowed to be changed. But the fencing walls can be improved with landscaping methods.
Q: Could there be any changes for the location of the Zhongshan Square? Is there a specific boundary for Zhongshan Square?
A: The location of the Zhongshan Square is not allowed to be changed. The western section, which is on the west of the Gangkou River, is considered to be the Zhongshan Square. But there is not a specific boundary. The naming of the Zhongshan Square is certain. The information is to help establish an idea of the site and design theme, and avoid misunderstanding.
Q: Can drawings be spread across 2 pages?
A: Spread-Pages is not recommended considering the flexibility of arranging the presentation boards during the judging.
